NEUROAKQUISE® RESEARCH

Be specific early, slow down later

No new publication cleared our relevance threshold this week. However, a previously overlooked field study of real B2B lead calls shows that specificity and speaking rate work differently depending on the stage of the conversation.

Conversation stage before conversation technique

Balducci, Marinova and Singh analysed 783 B2B lead calls comprising 11,566 speaking turns. In their model, a one-standard-deviation increase in lead receptivity was associated with a 13.44% higher conversion likelihood. More specific nudges increased measured receptivity by 11.82% early in the call but reduced it by 81.40% later. Faster speech was neutral early and associated with 8.26% lower receptivity later.

For sales practice: For Neuroakquise®, this suggests a sequence to test: after the first clear relevance signal, offer the next step specifically and directly. If the call drags on or resistance appears later, slow down, ask an open follow-up question, and become specific again only after the answer. In coaching, track the timing of the first specific appointment proposal, speech rate after late resistance, and appointments per relevant conversation.

Evidence and limitations: The study uses real B2B calls and real conversion data, but it is not a randomised intervention. The data come from a single company and are not public because of a nondisclosure agreement. Applying the finding to a specific Neuroakquise® appointment phrase therefore remains a test hypothesis.
