Latest insights on mental preparation and breathing routines

Emotion regulation can be practised. Individual exercises still need to be assessed in terms of context, duration and measured effects.

Practise regularly and check transfer

An eight-week study of 80 Chinese students compared language classes with and without emotion-regulation training. The training group showed better results for speaking anxiety, engagement and oral performance.

For sales practice: Build mental preparation into repeated role plays, then check how it transfers to real conversations.

Evidence and limitations: Four existing classes were compared, so class and teacher effects remain possible. This does not validate an individual reset drill or better prospecting results.

Assess box breathing with care

A systematic review reports possible short-term benefits for stress and mood. Physiological results are mixed, with substantial differences in protocols, participants and measurements.

For sales practice: Try calm preparation as a personal routine and observe its usefulness in daily work. Avoid presenting any breathing technique as a performance guarantee.

Evidence and limitations: Long-term evidence is limited and B2B conversation performance was not tested. The published abstract contains inconsistent study counts, so no total is reproduced here.
